Paul Zilk is stepping down from his role as president and CEO of Reed Midem, the organizer behind events including MIPCOM and MIPTV, after nearly two decades.
Michel Filzi (pictured right), president and CEO of sister company Reed Expositions France (REF), will succeed Zilk (left) effective Oct. 1.
Zilk joined Reed Midem in 2001, and has served as CEO for 19 years. During his tenure, the event organizer has expanded its business in the real estate, television, music and eSports sectors.
The long-time executive will take on an advisory role to Dominic Feltham, the EMEA president for Reed Exhibitions, for the next year.
Filzi has 22 years of experience at Reed Expositions France — which organizers more than 30 events in 15 different sectors — including six years as CEO.
He will remain as president and CEO of the company, reporting to Feltham.
Zilk said in a statement: “The past 19 years have been terrific, but this is the right time to refocus my interests and energies. Following lots of preparation in recent months, I look forward to helping Michel with our transition.”
Earlier this month, Reed Midem canceled the physical event for this year’s MIPCOM market and conference in Cannes — held in October — pivoting to an entirely virtual experience due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
In late July, the company announced plans to reconfigure the physical event, doing away with exhibition stands and moving towards facilitating more networking space under the heading of MIPCOM Rendezvous Cannes. That move wasn’t able to prevent several major companies, including Banijay, Fremantle and A+E among others, from pulling out of having a presence at the physical event, citing safety concerns.
The 2020 edition of MIPTV, meanwhile, was shelved in early March just weeks before attendees were set to gather on the French Riviera.
The next edition of MIPTV will take place April 12-15, 2021 in Cannes with MIPDoc and MIPFormats scheduled for April 10-11, 2021.
