Discovery Inc.’s true crime and mystery network Investigation Discovery will debut the two-hour documentary The Witmans, a Zero Point Zero Production in association with Docupation Films, this December.

The Witmans (pictured) will delve into the intricacies and evolution of juvenile incarceration in America.

Directed by David Peterson, the story is told told through the eyes of parents Ron and Sue Witman — who lost one child, Greg, to murder and the other, Zach, to the justice system — as they embark on a 20-year journey to free their last surviving child.

With insight from Bryan Stevenson, the civil rights lawyer who argued the case and founded the Equal Justice Initiative, the documentary explores impact of youth incarceration, taking into consideration issues of race and affluence, geography and history.

Lydia Tenaglia, Christopher Collins and Craig Shepherd serve as executive producers for Zero Point Zero. Shannon Sun-Higginson, Nikolas Diener, Gregory Timmons and Leslie Drinkwater also executive produce.

For ID, Sara Kozak is EP and SVP of production.

The Witmans premieres Dec. 1 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
