Factual entertainment streaming service CuriosityStream has partnered with Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way Productions and Stephen David Entertainment, a Banijay Group company, to launch the original biography series Beyond the Spotlight.
Filmed in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 6 x 60-minute series will provide an intimate look into the lives of celebrities on a personal and emotional journey to change the world for the better. Each episode will center around “deeply profound conversations” with individuals at the height of their fame who are willing to share what truly inspires them.
Featured throughout season one of the series are The Good Place and Forgetting Sarah Marshall actress Kristen Bell (pictured); NBA legend and Inside the NBA analyst Shaquille O’Neal; Academy Award-nominated actor Samuel L. Jackson alongside his Tony Award-nominated wife LaTanya Richardson Jackson; former New York Jets quarterback Joe Namath; and YouTube influencer MrBeast.
“We are very proud to premiere these fresh and incredibly revealing stories of people we thought we knew, told in their own words during a time of great personal reflection,” said Rob Burk, head of original content for CuriosityStream, in a statement.
“Especially during these trying times, it’s been an incredible opportunity to shed light on these amazing causes and to gain a different perspective on the celebrities we all know and love,” added Stephen David, CEO for Stephen David Entertainment.
Beyond the Spotlight premieres across CuriosityStream on Nov. 19, with episodes four through six launching in early 2021.
The series is executive produced by DiCaprio, Jennifer Davisson and Phillip Watson for Appian Way alongside David and Tim W. Kelly for Stephen David Entertainment. For CuriosityStream, Noah Morowitz is exec producer.
