Scorpion TV secures sales in Spain and Portugal
London-based indie content distributor Scorpion TV has secured a string of documentary sales in Spain and Portugal.
Spanish national broadcaster RTVE acquired the recently launched Holy Silence (1 x 52 minutes; PerlePress Productions for PBS), directed by Steven Pressman, for its Documentos channel.
Televisio de Catalunya’s TV3 acquired Siyaya: Come Wild With Us and Siyaya: Wildest Cape (13 x 30 minutes) for its kids strand. Siyaya: Come Wild With Us is produced by Francois Odendaal Productions for South African public broadcaster SABC.
SIC in Portugal bought Fortune Fights (10 x 45 minutes) for its Caras channel; and RTP3 in Portugal acquired A Cure for Fear (1 x 52 minutes; HD) from Topic and director Lana Wilson.
Chile: A Wild Journey (pictured) has been picked up by U.S. Hispanic broadcaster HITN; while Spanish-language OTT operator Olympusat bought 52-minute documentaries The Search for Mona Lisa and The Search for the Last Supper (Pantheon Studios for PBS).
Olympusat also acquired Siyaya: Come Wild With Us, Siyaya: Wildest Cape The Art of Nature and Zapped: The Buzz About Mosquitos (1 x 45 minutes).
Craig Junner upped to VP post at Blue Ant Media
Toronto-headquartered producer, distributor and channel operator Blue Ant Media has promoted Craig Junner to VP of programming for Canadian media.
Junner oversees all aspects of the content and programming strategy for Blue Ant Media’s eight linear Canadian channels, including acquisitions, original programming and scheduling. The executive also oversees strategy for the company’s expanding portfolio of SVOD and AVOD channel offerings.
He will continue to report to Jamie Schouela, president of global channels and media.
Junner joined Blue Ant Media at its inception in 2011 as senior manager of programming, later taking on the role of senior director of video strategy in 2017.
He previously served in senior roles leading and managing programming teams for Canadian broadcasters such as Global Television, CanWest, CTV and Shaw Media, while also contributing to all channel launches and integrations attached to M&A activities.
MTV Int’l slates Celeb Ex in the City
MTV International is expanding its global franchise Ex on the Beach with Celeb Ex in the City, premiering this December.
Each episode of the format — filmed prior to the UK’s second lockdown — features two single celebrities on a blind date at a restaurant in the heart of London, only to be interrupted by surprise visits from their exes.
A ViacomCBS International Studios format, Celeb Ex in the City was created by ViacomCBS Networks International’s Youth & Entertainment development team, in association with Whizz Kid Entertainment (an Entertainment One company), commissioned by Kerry Taylor and Craig Orr. The show was executive produced by Jaime Brannan for MTV International and Lisa Chapman and Rachael Parker for Whizz Kid Entertainment.
Celeb Ex in the City premieres Dec. 8 across MTV International’s channels globally.
MTV International first launched Ex on the Beach in 2014. Since then, the format has been adapted in 15 territories, including in the U.S., Brazil, Mexico, Italy and the Netherlands. Most recently, a local version of the series launched in Germany on RTL’s TVNOW.
CuriosityStream, Tata Sky ink deal
Factual streamer CuriosityStream has signed a partnership with India-based content distribution and pay-TV platform Tata Sky to bring documentary films and series to viewers India.
Tata Sky subscribers will now have access to CuriosityStream’s content via its Tata Sky Binge service.
CuriosityStream will also be available as a linear service on television to Tata Sky DTH subscribers with an option to view live or via the Tata Sky Mobile app.
