Phil Irven, April Yuan and Cal Boyington — three agents previously with Los Angeles-based Rebel Entertainment Partners — have set up a new shop, Vital Artists Agency.
Yuan (pictured, left) had been an agent at Rebel for several years, following graduation from UCLA and from USC with a law degree. Boyington (right) had been an agent at ICM and head of alternative at Paradigm previously, and also worked as a producer prior to joining Rebel. Irven (center), meanwhile, started his career at WMA and CAA and was with Rebel Entertainment Partners for almost 20 years.
“Vital came to be because of our desire to grow and the amazing group of artists we’re fortunate enough to represent,” said Boyington in a statement. “Given the changes that are taking place in our industry today, we felt this was the perfect time to set out.”
“Because the marketplace has grown exponentially beyond the traditional broadcast networks, and cable outlets, with all the digital premium platforms, we feel more than ever it is an exciting time to be a seller,” added Irven, while Yuan commented: “As a woman of color in this industry, it has always been a personal mission of mine to advocate for diverse talent and marginalized voices, and with the full support of my partners at Vital, we are, as an agency, absolutely committed to leveling the playing field and championing those who haven’t been given the advancement opportunities they deserve.”
Production company clients represented by the trio include Scott Sternberg Productions, Lauren Grace Media, Conveyor Media, and Sunwise Media. Directors repped by Vital Artists Agency include Sarah de la O (The View), Randi Clarke Lennon (Tamron Hall), and Paul Casey (Real Time with Bill Maher).
