Univision announced changes to its executive leadership team Monday (Jan. 11), including the appointment of former Telemundo Networks exec Luis Silberwasser, as part of the U.S. Hispanic mediaco’s strategy to drive growth.
Silberwasser (pictured), formerly president of NBCUniversal’s Telemundo Networks, takes on the newly created role of president of the Univision Television Networks Group.
In this role, the executive will lead the company’s national TV properties.
Univision also tapped Pierluigi Gazzolo, who stepped down as ViacomCBS Networks International’s president of streaming and studios in October 2020, for the newly created role of president of Univision Communications Inc. and chief transformation officer.
He is tasked with overseeing the future streaming business and cross-functional collaboration among different business units.
Prior to his most recent role at Telemundo Networks, Silberwasser was the chief content officer and EVP at Discovery International in London. He also held senior and managerial roles at Sunbeam Corporation and Proctor & Gamble.
Gazzolo previously served as chief operating officer for MTV Networks International and then the greater Viacom International Media Networks. Following his time as COO, Gazzolo was named president of ViacomCBS Networks for Latin America and Canada.
“Today begins a transformation for Univision. One that will see us accelerate our position as the leading U.S. Hispanic media company as we launch new products and services that will drive value for our U.S. Hispanic audience and for our advertising and distribution partners, who want to reach and engage with this critical audience,” Wade Davis, CEO of Univision, said in a statement.
Among other appointments, Donna Speciale is now president of advertising sales and marketing; Friday Abernethy has been promoted to EVP of content distribution and partnerships; Adam Shippee is now EVP of corporate development, strategy and transformation; and Amy Tenbrink is EVP and associate general counsel, revenue/business development, with expanded responsibilities across the digital business.
