ITV Studios has put out the call for creators to submit applications to its third annual Factual Pitch program for 2021.
The Factual Pitch Program’s goal is to marry top tier production talent with broadcasting platforms around the world to create content and stories that resonate with a global audience.
“It is always with great excitement that we wait for the ideas to come in for the pitch,” says Cecilie Olsen, SVP of global content, non-scripted, at ITV Studios. “We are delighted to be working with some of the most innovative broadcasters internationally that share our passion for high quality and break out content. Together we are in a brilliant position to breathe life into the producers’ ideas — and bring them to a worldwide audience.”
The pitches should be new ideas in the genre spaces of true crime, lifestyle or hidden worlds/armchair travel, and have a budget of approximately £100,000 per episode.
Under the true crime banner the call is for short-run serialized ideas along the lines of Making a Murderer. With preference given to shows set in the UK, America or Australia, they must be in the English language and not be “host led,” with a three-to-six episode run.
For lifestyle series the pitch should be “aspirational and feel good” with a first-person point of view such as Extreme Weight Loss. The brief also states they’ll consider series in the docusoap, makeover, competitive reality or property spaces.
For Hidden Worlds/Armchair Travel the pitches should take viewers to “extraordinary places” they normally would never see. They are open to host-led concepts but with exclusive access. As with true crime series they prefer a three-to-six episode run.
International partners ITV, Channel 4, A+E Networks UK, Seven Network Australia, PBS, Discovery and Tencent Video in China will help to finance, produce and distribute along with ITV Studios.
The deadline for entries is Thursday, January 28, 2021. Pitches will go forward during the first two-weeks of March.
