It’s back to the chateau for UK’s Two Rivers Media and Chateau TV who have inked a two-year programming deal with British broadcaster Channel 4.

Under the deal come two new eight-part seasons of Escape to the Chateau, a recommission of Escape to the Chateau: Make Do and Mend; and another series featuring couple Dick and Angel Strawbridge — who own Chateau TV — which is currently in development.

This comes after the success of Escape to the Chateau‘s seventh season, its best-performer to date reaching 3.1 million viewers and a 13.1% share, according to the production companies. Escape to the Chateau: Make Do and Mend, which aired summer 2020, proved to be Channel 4′s most successful new series launch in its 8 p.m. slot.

“Our strategic partnership with Chateau TV is important for us as a growing indie with ambitions to make programming which is both creatively strong and internationally successful,” said Lizi Wootton, head of popular factual at Two Rivers, in a statement. “There is a huge opportunity to grow the success of the Chateau brand on-screen and we are thrilled to be playing such a key role in its programming future.”

The first collab between Two Rivers and Chateau TV was the inaugural season of Escape: Make Do and Mend, which follows on-screen talent Dick and Angel as they help solve France’s “make-do and mend dilemmas.”

“We are excited to be at the start of what we hope will be a long and successful relationship with Two Rivers, one of the most exciting indies in the UK sector at the moment,” Dick and Angel Strawbridge added.”We first started working with Lizi when Escape to the Chateau was little more than an idea, so it’s terrific to be collaborating again on these series and growing our creative relationship.”

The journey began six years ago when Dick and Angel found Château de la Motte Husson — a 45-room, five-storey chateau that the couple decided to restore. Escape to the Chateau, is one of Channel 4′s top rated shows, averaging about 2.5 million viewers weekly. It has sold to 42 territories, from Australia to Angola; Canada to China.

All3Media International will be the international partner on each of the series.
