British pubcaster BBC has commissioned London media outfits Possessed and 12 Yard, both part of ITV Studios, to produce the general knowledge quiz show, Unbeatable, hosted by comedian and TV personality Jason Manford for BBC1 afternoons.
During the 50 x 45-minute quiz show, four contestants will always be able to give an answer — but the test is whether or not they give the ‘unbeatable’ answer and leap ahead of the competition to win a cash prize.
“Unbeatable is a real treat for Daytime’s quiz-savvy viewers who love to play along, and with Jason at the helm we can promise there’ll also be plenty of laughs along the way,” says Carla-Maria Lawson, BBC Head of Daytime and Early Peak in a statement.
Unbeatable is executive produced by Zoë Tait and Glenn Hugill. It was commissioned by Carla-Maria Lawson, head of BBC Daytime and early-peak, and Alex McLeod, commissioning editor for BBC Daytime and early-peak. It will broadcast on BBC1 afternoons later this year.
In other news, the broadcaster has commissioned an as-yet-untitled doc feature from Fired Up Films, a Northern Ireland indie founded by Jon-Barrie Waddell and Simon Howley.
The film, which is directed by Mike Connelly, will air in two parts on BBC2 and BBC Northern Ireland and follows the rise and fall of automaker John Z. DeLorean as he attempted to design and build the “car of the future” in 1980s war-torn Belfast.
The producers inked an exclusive deal with PH Films in New York to include rare and never-before-seen footage filmed by Oscar-winning directors Chris Hegedus and the late DA Pennebaker, who were granted unprecedented access to DeLorean during the era.
The doc combines testimonies from family members, colleagues, workers, journalists as well as news footage documenting DeLorean’s life and career. Included on the list of interviewees is fashion model Cristina Ferrare, who was married to DeLorean and speaks about her ex-husband for the first time in 40 years.
The project is co-funded by Northern Ireland Screen and Fired Up has secured a SVOD platform for global rights. Executive producers for Fired Up Films are Jon-Barrie Waddell and Jon Smith. Daisy Scalchi and Justin Binding are commissioning executives for BBC2 and BBC NI, respectively.
