London indie Zig Zag Productions has been commissioned by global content creator and platform Insight TV along with American pay-TV net Outdoor Channel to produce the science-based weapons construction series Backyard Ballistics.

Each episode of the 10-part series will chart hosts Jöerg Sprave (pictured left), a madcap inventor and YouTube star, and creative technician Cheyenne Ruether (right) as they take on fan challenges via social media and attempt to build and test “truly mind-bending” launchers consisting of exotic slingshots, bows, crossbows and airsoft guns.

Currently filming in Germany and Denver, the series will follow as Sprave and Ruether receive the design brief and produce weapons prototypes before putting the final build through its paces in a “nail-biting” test.

Backyard Ballistics is slated to premiere Summer 2021 in North America via Outdoor Channel and in the rest of the world courtesy Insight TV.

Insight TV will also include the series on its channels in the U.S. and Canada six months after Outdoor Channel has broadcast the series.

“It’s a pleasure to bring together these great partners – Insight TV and Outdoor Channel – to make this unique and fun show to light up the world at this time of darkness with global phenomenon Jöerg Sprave with his sense of mischief and engineering mastery. This is going to be one amazing show to make,” said Zig Zag CEO Danny Fenton in a statement.

Backyard Ballistics is our first co-production with Outdoor Channel and we’re excited to marry their U.S. viewer base of outdoor lifestyle enthusiasts with Insight TV’s global audience of highly engaged and curious millennials,” noted Insight’s Arun Maljaars, VP of content and channels.  “We hope this will be one of many U.S. co-productions for 2021.”

“Jöerg’s personality and creativity is truly infectious and makes for great television programming,” added Katie Gladstone, Outdoor Sportsman Group VP of program and planning scheduling.
