Kurt Tondorf – former SVP of development at Discovery, Inc.-owned nets Animal Planet and Science Channel — has boarded Nomadica Films (Netflix’s Izzy’s Koala World) as partner and head of development.

The executive (pictured) will lead Nomadica’s development team, overseeing the company’s slate of new series and specials.

Prior to his tenure at Discovery, Tondorf served as VP of development Optomen Productions in New York.

In that role, his credits included Food Network’s Worst Cooks in America, Travel Channel’s Mysteries at the Museum and History’s Evolve.

Before Optomen, Tondorf was a producer and development executive for London indie Windfall Films, where he developed My Brilliant Brain for National Geographic.

His development credits for Animal Planet include The Last Alaskans, where he forged a partnership with the creative team that would go on to form Nomadica: Jared McGilliard, John Collin and Dave Clawson.

Tondorf paired Nomadica with Group Nine’s The Dodo to produce Animal Planet’s first-ever global series, Dodo Heroes.

His other network credits include Crikey! It’s the Irwins, The Zoo and Saving Africa’s Giants.

“It’s the culmination of a five-year dream to find myself partnering with Jared, John and Dave at Nomadica,” Tondorf said in a statement. “We’re completely aligned both in regard to the lasting stories we want to tell and the company culture we want to grow.”

Full-service production outfit Nomadica, represented by ICM Partners, has produced projects including BYUtv’s Wizard of Paws and the soon-to-be-released feature documentary The Swim, both partnership with Group Nine Media.
