A feature doc coming to Netflix reveals the inner-workings of the college admissions bribery scandal that took down Hollywood celebrities, financiers and other high-profile wealthy parents.
Operation Varsity Blues follows how Rick Singer, the man behind the explosive 2019 college admissions scandal, convinced his wealthy clients to cheat an educational system designed to benefit the privileged. Hollywood stars Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin, along with her fashion designer husband Mossimo Giannulli, ultimately served jail time.
According to the streamer, director Chris Smith (pictured) will combine interviews and narrative recreations of the FBI’s wiretapped conversations between Singer and his clients.
Actor Matthew Modine (Stranger Things) will portray Singer in the recreations.
The film is directed by Smith and produced by Jon Karmen, the filmmakers behind Fyre. Smith also exec produced Netflix’s hit docuseries Tiger King.
