Munich-based Bavaria Film is acquiring Story House Productions and Story House Pictures, both forming the Story House Group, as part of its expansion into factual and factual entertainment.

Bavaria Film will acquire the companies — based in Berlin and Unterföhring, respectively — through its wholly owned subsidiary Bavaria Film Content.

Under the leadership of original shareholders Carsten Oblaender, Andreas Gutzeit and Jens Afflerbach, Story House has become one of Germany’s leading factual and factual entertainment producers since its inception in 1999.

Oblaender (CEO), Gutzeit (CCO) and Afflerbach (CEP) will continue as managing directors.

Story House produces for broadcasters and platforms such as ARD, ZDF, ProSiebenSat.1, Joyn, the RTL Group, TVNOW and DMAX.

Internationally, the group’s clients include Discovery, National Geographic, PBS, Channel 4, HBO and Amazon.

Long-running series include Terra X – A day in … and The Great Food Report with chef Nelson Müller for ZDF; as well as Galileo Plus (ProSieben); Reeperbahn privat! (RTLzwei); Trucker Babes (Kabel eins); and King of Trucks (DMAX).

Story House also produces for the digital marketplace, including the ZDF YouTube channel, ZDF besseresser.

Christian Franckenstein (pictured), CEO of Bavaria Film, said in a statement: “The German production market is characterized by an ongoing wave of consolidation. With this takeover, Bavaria Film is also staking a claim as an active participant in this consolidation process. Afflerbach added: “Taking Story House into the digital era with a young, strong team with high quality and entertaining content has proven to be the right thing to do, especially during the corona [COVID-19] crisis. We were able to deepen many partnerships and win new ones. For a producer, this is a fulfilling task, which we are now continuing together with Bavaria Film.”
