Unrealistic Ideas, the production company led by Mark Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson and Archie Gipshas, joined forces with Canadian social media personality Josh Richards to launch CrossCheck Studios, LLC, a production company geared to Gen Z content creators across all sectors of entertainment.
As part of the joint venture, Richards (pictured) will serve as CEO and Michael Gruen, Richards’ business partner, as president. The team has already lined up a full slate of material and is continuing to actively scout new projects.
Unrealistic Ideas will support Richards and Gruen in the growth of their company through development and production. CrossCheck Studios is focused on becoming the premier venue for internet-native creatives.
“I am impressed with Josh and all of the things he’s already accomplished,” Wahlberg said. “We are looking forward to being in business with him and joining forces with CrossCheck Studios.”
“It’s an honor to partner with Mark Wahlberg and the team at Unrealistic Ideas,” Richards said. “This is a real passion project for me that I’m going to pour my heart and soul into. We’re going to have a lot of fun along the way and build something great together. I would like to thank Mark, Lev and Archie for believing in a 19-year-old from a small town in Ontario. Now, let’s get to work.”
According to Forbes, in 2020 Richards was the fifth highest-earning TikTok star, and has amassed 24 million followers on the platform, along with 2.4 million on YouTube and over 7 million on Instagram. He has turned his success into supporting numerous business ventures through both investments and as owner or co-founder of companies such as Ani Energy, Sillybandz and Talent X Entertainment, alongside Gruen.
