Sky Studios is launching a wholly-owned, factual and unscripted prodco, Transistor Films, headed up by award-winning producer and former Sky Vision Productions head Danny Tipping (pictured).
Based in London, the venture will produce docs and other unscripted projects to “keep viewers on the edge of their seat,” according to the company.
Prior to creating Transistor, Tipping was head of factual for Znak & Co, part of the Sky Studios roster of prodcos, where he oversaw hundreds of hours of programs for the likes of PBS, Discovery Networks, National Geographic and Netflix to name a few. He joined the company after Sky Vision Productions wound down in early 2018.
Joining Tipping will be executive producer Ned Parker, series producer Zoe Hines and development executive Jason Oates. This is the same team behind The Murderer & Me for Sky Crime, and two seasons of I Am a Killer for Netflix.
First up for Transistor is a three-part feature documentary special Living with a Serial Killer for Oxygen in the U.S.
“The Transistor Films team and I couldn’t be more excited to get going this week under our new banner,” Tipping said in a statement. “Building on the success of our recent true crime series, we’ll be pushing further into documentary and factual entertainment programming over the coming months. We are pleased to have a number of active developments underway already, and excited to become the newest member of the Sky studios family of production companies.”
