Hot Docs has added three additional titles to its 2021 festival lineup, including Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson’s Sundance Grand Jury Prize-winning Summer of Soul (pictured).
Summer of Soul (…Or, When The Revolution Could Not Be Televised), about the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival, will have its Canadian premiere in the festival’s Special Presentations Program.
Joseph Patel, Robert Fyvolent and David Dinerstein are producers.
Also added to this year’s slate is a special screening of the Apple TV+ docuseries Watch the Sound with Mark Ronson, about the evolution of music and audio production with Grammy-winning producer Mark Ronson, to be featured in the Deep Dive program.
The series, directed by Jason Zeldes, will premiere on the streamer July 30.
Edgar Wright’s The Sparks Brothers, meanwhile, will have its international premiere in the Special Presentations program.
The film tells the story of the members of American cult pop rock band Sparks and their musical legacy. Wright, Nira Park, George Hencken and Laura Richardson are producers.
Hot Docs will present its 28th annual edition online from April 29 to May 9.
