Proving that crime pays (true crime TV series, that is), Lifetime is returning to the inner lives of criminals with the six-episode doc series Cellmate Secrets as part of the network’s Summer of Secrets line up.
Actor Angie Harmon (Rizzoli and Isles) narrates the show, which offers up new insights and info from former friends, guards, cellmates and lovers of the famous and infamous felons and defendants. Several of the episodes air following one of the Lifetime Original Movies based on the true crime tale depicted.
“Angie, true crime and Lifetime are a perfect fit together,” said Amy Winter, EVP, head of programming, Lifetime and LMN. “We know our audience devoured the stories when they were playing out in headlines, but now we can go even deeper to reveal more about those infamous stories.”
Some of the high-profile cases reexamined in Cellmate Secrets include that of Casey Anthony, who was acquitted for the murder of her daughter Caylee, as well as convicted killer Drew Peterson and others.
Cellmate Secrets is produced by AMS Pictures with Andy Streitfeld serving as executive producer, Kim Clemons as showrunner, Brad Osborne as creative director, Allison Willoughby as producer and Amanda Metz as production manager. Winter, Brie Miranda Bryant, Nicole Vogel executive produce for Lifetime. Mioshi Hill also serves as executive producer.
