Showrunner and producer Shani Black has boarded lifestyle entertainment company Kin as head of programming and development.

Black (pictured) will work with the LA-headquartered Kin team on growing its slate of unscripted programs for social, streaming, and linear platforms, reporting to COO Tejal Ajmera.

The company’s programming portfolio, geared toward young women, includes Quick Fix with Tia Mowry, All Things Adrienne with Adrienne Bailon Houghton and Hello Hunnay with Jeannie Mai.

Most recently, the Kin team launched Just Angela starring Angela Simmons on Aspire TV, with plans to roll out episodes across YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram as well.

Black’s credits as a showrunner, producer and casting director span studios and networks such as Discovery, Warner Brothers/Telepictures, NBCUniversal, MTV, Fox and Facebook Watch.

She has worked on shows such as House Hunters, The Doctors and most recently Red Table Talk with Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith and Jada’s mother Adrienne Banfield-Norris, for which she was nominated for one Daytime Emmy Award and one NAACP Award.

Ajmera said in a statement: “Shani brings a wealth of experience creating hits in the lifestyle category. As we create more programming that transcends social, streaming and linear platforms, we believe that Shani’s expertise and creativity will take us to the next level and help us connect with fans no matter where they are watching.”

Black added: “Kin takes a unique approach to developing shows for young women that have been able to appeal to a wide audience. I’m looking forward to collaborating with the team and helping to grow their roster of hits.”
