Former Amazon executive Jeff Blackburn (pictured left with Amazon’s Jason Ropell) will return to the company as SVP of its new, consolidated Global Media & Entertainment organization, Amazon announced internally on Thursday (May 13).

The organizational structure Blackburn will oversee will include Prime Video and Amazon Studios, as well as the music, podcasts/Wondery, Audible, games and Twitch divisions.

Blackburn first joined Amazon in 1998 after helping to guide the company through its IPO at Deutsche Bank. The company credits him with helping to build a number of important facets of the company in more than two decades, including Amazon Studios, Prime Video and Amazon Music.

His interest to return to Amazon presented an opportunity for the company to combine its entertainment businesses into a single organization, Amazon Web Services CEO Andy Jassy said in an email announcing Blackburn’s hiring. Jassy is taking on the CEO role at Amazon once outgoing CEO Jeff Bezos steps down in July.

Blackburn had left Amazon just earlier this year to join Bessemer Venture Partners. He will return to Amazon on June 7.
