Discovery Channel has ordered two new automotive series: Getaway Driver and The Hop (w/t). Both series will screen across all Discovery platforms.

Getaway Driver is hosted by actress Michelle Rodriguez (pictured) who will be joined by rally champion Wyatt Knox in a series that is being billed as “the real life Fast & Furious.” The eight-episode competition series features 24 elite drivers from drift champions to street racers to hotshot YouTubers who compete to prove they have the skill behind the wheel and the mental toughness to outrun and out-drive the competition in an 60-acre compound filled with obstacles.

“I’m glad Discovery has decided to take it to the edge with a show like this. This is a whole new type of challenge for racers of all classes, I’m excited for what we’re pioneering here,” said Rodriguez in a statement.

The Hop(w/t), meanwhile, is a docuseries following four top lowriding garages in the country as they devote their business to making their creations dominate the world of lowrider building and car hopping. These garages must juggle the everyday affairs of running their shops — building lowriders for customers while also crafting vehicles to face off against rivals in hop contests with tens of thousands of dollars at stake in each vehicle.

“We are constantly searching for ways to evolve our motor programming and bring engaging, new characters to our viewers. These two new series will bring audiences along for the ride and highlight extraordinary aspects of the automotive world rarely seen on television,” said Nancy Daniels, chief brand officer, Discovery & Factual, in a statement.

Getaway Driver is produced by October Films, with executive producers Chris Muckle, Adam Vetri, Tom Fullford, and Jos Cushing. For Discovery, Kyle Wheeler is executive producer and Paola Espinosa is associate producer.

The Hop (w/t) is produced by Original Productions with executive producers Brian Lovett and Jeff Hasler. Todd Lefkowitz is executive producer and Cameron Doyle is coordinating producer for Discovery.
