In the newly created role, Griffith will oversee day-to-day operations and report to Miazga. For the past five years, Griffith (pictured) has served as a production executive at Corus, overseeing development and production on originals for HGTV Canada, Food Network Canada and Slice. Before Corus acquired Shaw Media, Griffith served as executive in charge of production on Shaw Media’s lifestyle originals from 2010 to 2016.
During her tenure with the companies, Griffith’s production credits have included Canada’s Handyman Challenge, Holmes and Holmes, Backyard Builds, Scott’s Vacation House Rules, Big Food Bucket List, Junior Chef Showdown, Family Home Overhaul and Cheese: A Love Story.
Meanwhile, Miazga has been named president and executive producer of unscripted for Sphere Media, in addition to managing director for Sphere’s Toronto office. In the new role, Miazga will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Toronto office, as well as leading the unscripted and kids and family team.
BGM has been part of the Sphere Media group for around 15 months, after the Montreal-headquartered production group acquired BGM from Kew Media Group, which collapsed in February 2020.
“I watched BGM expertly navigate the Kew situation and come out in a powerful position by joining Sphere Media. It made an impact on me. If they could do that, they pretty much can do anything. I’m so thrilled to be joining this resilient, brilliant, globally-focused team,” said Griffith in a statement.
Elsewhere, BGM has promoted Aidan Denison to director of development. In the role, Denison will work with Miazga and development SVP Sean Connolly to create, develop and pitch unscripted primetime and kids’ content. 9/11: Cleared for Chaos (Nat Geo, Discovery Canada), 100 Days to Victory (BBC, Foxtel, History Canada) and Canada: The Story of Us (CBC) are among Denison’s credits.
Azucena Mainero has also been promoted to development coordinator from executive assistant. Mainero, who relocated from Mexico City five years ago to pursue her goal to work in film and TV, started out as a grip and camera assistant. Both Denison and Mainero will report to Connolly.
