495 Productions’ chief creative officer Drew Tappon is joining OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network as head of unscripted development, programming and specials.

Tappon (pictured) will report to OWN president Tina Perry and will lead efforts to develop and produce a variety of unscripted programming for the network across genres.

“Drew is one of the most talented creatives in the industry having developed and produced some of the biggest unscripted hits on television,” Perry said in a statement. “I am beyond excited to have him join OWN to bring his expertise to our growing lineup of dynamic series.”

“I can’t wait to join the team at OWN and help continue its growth,” said Tappon. “Working with the unscripted community to forge new programming for the network is the chance of a lifetime.”

At 495 Productions, Tappon oversaw all creative elements for the production company behind reality programming including Peace of Mind with Taraji P. Henson, Jersey Shore, Floribama Shore, A Double Shot at Love, Martha and Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party and others.

Prior to joining 495 Productions, Tappon was the SVP of non-fiction/alternative programming for A&E where he oversaw multiple series including the Emmy award-winning Born this Way.

Before working at A&E, Tappon developed content for Warner Horizon Television working on such fare as The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, The Voice, America’s Best Dance Crew and High School Reunion.

Prior to that, Tappon was the SVP, original programming and series development for MTV where he worked on a number of programs including The Real World, Road Rules and The Challenge; A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila and the network’s afternoon block with Date My Mom, Next, Parental Control, Exposed and Why Can’t I Be You? among others.

OWN’s previous head of unscripted, Robyn Lattaker-Johnson, joined in January of 2020 and left the network at the end of April.
