UK-headquartered production and distribution firm All3Media has acquired NENT Studios UK, formerly known as DRG, from Stockholm-headquartered Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT).
The acquisition of NENT Studios’ UK distribution business adds more than 10,000 hours of content, including over 100 formats, to the catalog of All3Media’s distribution arm, All3Media International, and includes such titles as Doc Martin, The Cry, Yorkshire Vet, Manhunt, Catchphrase (pictured) and Don’t Tell the Bride.
London-headquartered content development, funding and distribution outfit DRG, part of Nordic Entertainment (NENT) Group, was incorporated into NENT Studios UK and rebranded under the banner in April of last year. DRG CEO Richard Halliwell was named CEO of NENT Studios UK.
In November of 2020, NENT announced it was looking to sell its UK Studios business, with the parent company aiming to focus on its Viaplay streaming service. At the time, NENT said it had expressions of interest from more than 20 UK-based and international companies.
NENT is also looking to sell its unscripted and branded entertainment production operations, with an aim to recalibrate NENT Studios as a primarily scripted production outfit.
DRG was acquired by MTG, the company from which NENT was later spun off, in 2013. All3Media is owned by Discovery, Inc. and Liberty Global.
“NENT Studios UK has a deep, high quality, distribution catalogue and I’m really pleased that Louise Pedersen and All3Media International will be in a position to add titles such as the upcoming original drama Close to Me, as well as Doc Martin, Catchphrase, and Don’t Tell the Bride to our distribution slate,” saod All3Media CEO Jane Turton in a statement. “There has never been more demand for high quality IP, and we are all looking forward to working closely with the producers of these shows.”
Gabriel Catrina, NENT Group EVP & chief financial officer, said: “All3Media’s position as a global distributor and storyteller makes it an ideal home for NENT Studios’ UK distribution business. This agreement and the ongoing sale of our Nordic non-scripted businesses are in line with NENT Group’s strategy of focusing on scripted content for our fast-expanding Viaplay streaming service, which will be available in at least 15 countries by 2023.”
ACF Investment Bank acted as advisers to NENT Studios UK on the sale. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
