ViacomCBS announced it has restructured its leadership team to better oversee new content within its streaming service, Paramount+, the company announced on Wednesday (June 23).
The move will see each of ViacomCBS’ global content leaders elevated to oversee their respective genres within Paramount+. Meanwhile, ViacomCBS appointed Tanya Giles (pictured), formerly general manger of MTV Entertainment Group, to chief programming officer, streaming. In this role, she’ll work as as centralized programming head to chart global content strategy for Paramount+ and for Pluto TV. Giles will report to Tom Ryan, ViacomCBS streaming president and CEO.
“The strong launch and early months of Paramount+ have demonstrated the power and potential of our platform, as well as audiences’ appetite for a broad and diverse array of content, all in one place,” said Bob Bakish, President and CEO, ViacomCBS in a news release.
“The moves we are making today will accelerate that mission by putting ViacomCBS’ most powerful assets – world-class content, iconic brands, global infrastructure and expertise, and the best talent in the business today – behind our platforms as we pursue the global opportunity in streaming.”
The new structure, which comes into effect immediately, is meant to ensure ViacomCBS will keep producing compelling, diverse content, and deploy the right mix of content across its platforms.
Seven executives included in the restructuring will take on new roles with Paramount+ on top of their current responsibilities. They include George Cheeks (chief content officer, news and sports), Jim Gianopulos (chief content officer, movies), Bruce Gillmer (chief content officer, music), Chris McCarthy (chief content officer, unscripted entertainment and adult animation), David Nevins (chief content officer, scripted originals), Nicole Clemens (president, Paramount+ original scripted series) and Brian Robbins (chief content officer, kids and family).
As part of this realignment, Kelly Day, president of streaming and COO of ViacomCBS Networks International, will work with Giles and the company’s content leaders to ensure the company is executing its global streaming strategy. This will include bringing ViacomCBS’ content portfolio to Paramount+ services globally and rolling out the streaming service to international markets.
