Magnify Media sells My Unique B&B

Distributor Magnify Media, part of Plimsoll Productions, has sold the series My Unique B&B (pictured) to multiple territories.

Magnify sold the series to networks and channels around the world including TVNZ in New Zealand, Grupa Canal+ in Poland, DPG Media in Belgium, RTL Living and Discovery in Germany, Foxtel in Australia and Ananey in Israel.

My Unique B&B sees master carpenter Simon Parfett and his team help families create their own B&B, showing how anyone with a little land or a garden can turn anything from an old caravan to a horse box into a weekend getaway.

The news comes after BBC2 commissioned a second season of the hit series. Karen Plumb is executive producer for Plimsoll, and commissioning editor is Lindsay Bradbury for the BBC.

ZDF buys Dis/Informed

Germany’s ZDF has bought Metrotone Media’s newest documentary Dis/Informed.

The 90-minute documentary investigates how people can be vulnerable to conspiracy theories, and digs into why the yoga and wellness movement has fallen for conspiracies like QAnon in the past year.

It features author and CNN regular Nina Jankowicz, New York Times-featured authors and academics Mia Bloom and Sophia Moskalenko, Imran Ahmed from the Centre for Countering Digital Hate, Hacked Off campaign director Kyle Taylor, Mother Jones editor Kiera Butler and the Oxford Internet Institute’s Phil Howard.

Dis/Informed is narrated by disinformation expert Charles Kriel, and directed in tandem with Katharina Gellein Viken. Kriel and Viken also directed the documentary People You May Know about political alliances with Cambridge Analytica that influenced US politics.

Abacus Media Rights has picked up worldwide distribution rights for Dis/Informed.

“The number of people who follow the multitude of often contradictory claims of QAnon continues to grow exponentially,” said Jonathan Ford, Abacus managing director, in a news release.

“This documentary is a fascinating deep-dive into the contentious group’s wide-ranging allegations and their followers around the world which we are extremely pleased to offer our international clients.”

Distribution360 inks deals

Distribution360 has completed several deals in Europe for a variety of factual entertainment and documentary titles, the company announced on Wednesday (July 14).

First, M6 licensed There’s Something You Should Know (6 x 30 minutes), a dating series that looks to demystify stereotypes and promote discussions around disability, where suitors choose matches from telephone conversations, only for the matches to reveal a physical disability ahead of their meeting.

Planete+ licensed Red Arrows: Inside the Bubble (1 x 60 minutes), a documentary with behind-the-scenes access to the Red Arrows aerobatic display team. Meanwhile, ARTE acquired Arctic: Awakening (1 x 60 minutes) about artist and explorer Cory Trépanier and his journey into various Canadian wilderness landscapes.

Italian broadcaster RAI 5 acquired seasons two and three of Tales By Light (12 x 60 minutes), a series following photographers from around the world as they capture different cultures, wildlife and landscapes.

Welt24 in Germany licensed the true crime title Sex, Fame & Murder (1 x 60 minutes) which offers a personal look at the life of Luka Magnotta, who sparked an international manhunt after he committed murder and went on the run.

Kontent acquired Vedettes à Poils (10 x 30 minutes) for the Russia, the Baltics and CIS. The series features championship dogs and their owners as they compete in prestigious competitions. In the same region, HDTV (Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Ukraine and CIS) licensed three factual titles: two series of Tomorrow’s World Today (24 x 30 minutes), Britain’s Ultimate Pilots (4 x 60 minutes) and the first season of WW2 Treasure Hunters (8 x 60 minutes).

Finally, European OTT platform Alchimie also acquired Vedettes à Poils, WW2 Treasure Hunters and Britain’s Ultimate Pilots, along with Pilotes de Demain (8 x 30 minutes) and Murder by Shark: The Birkenhead Disaster (1 x 60 minutes). Murder by Shark is a documentary about a shipwreck off the west coast of Africa where three tons of gold vanished and 436 people died, many of whom were eaten by sharks.
