Discovery+ will show viewers what America’s drug epidemic looks like behind bars with the new documentary series The Program: Prison Detox, premiering later this summer on the streaming service.

The first three episodes of The Program: Prison Detox will debut on August 25 on Discovery+, with new episodes following every week. The series is produced by Big City TV, part of The Content Group.

The show looks at a revolutionary pilot program at the jail in Sevier County, Arkansas, a community ravaged by drug addiction, that offers qualified inmates the opportunity to go free if they graduate from a three-month drug rehabilitation program. The series will follow the journeys of inmates in the program, known as trustees, who could have decades-long prison sentences wiped out if they do the work, graduate from the program and adhere to its rules. The program, in its 14th iteration, boasts a 72% success rate and brings together trustees with a team of specialists as they attend classes and maintain a rigorous work schedule while incarcerated.

The Program: Prison Detox will follow Camron, a former high school track champion now facing 70 years in prison on drug charges; Angela, who’s been in and out of jail several times and is now relying on her late husband’s ex-wife to care for her son; Tonya, who turned down a chance at an early release to participate in the program to repair her relationship with her children; Steven, who fell into drug addiction as a teen; and Barry, who’s trying to rebuild his life for the sake of his kids while facing 38 years in prison.

Discovery+, Renegade 83 line up Naked and Afraid of Love

Discovery+ is blending the survival and dating genres for its upcoming series Naked and Afraid of Love, produced by Renegade 83.

Premiering Aug. 22, the series will see 16 naked strangers — eight single men and eight single women — travel to an island in the Philippines in the hopes of finding true love while working together to survive the elements without readily available food, water or clothes.

David Garfinkle, Jay Renfroe and Jay Bienstock are executive producers for Renegade 83 (producer of the Naked and Afraid franchise), an Entertainment One (eOne) company.

For Discovery, Joseph Boyle and Michael Gara are executive producers and Paola Espinosa is associate producer.
