Fox Nation preps Clint Eastwood docs

Fox Nation, the on-demand subscription streaming service from Fox News, is producing a pair of original documentaries as part of a special month of programming about legendary actor and filmmaker, Clint Eastwood.

American Outlaw: Clint Eastwood’s Life in Film is a 30-minute documentary special narrated by Fox News anchor Bill Hemmer exploring the long career of the iconic Hollywood tough guy and Oscar-winning director.

The second 30-minute doc, Citizen Clint, focuses on Eastwood’s political career and views, including his two-year stint as mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, and features Fox News contributors Charlie Hurt and Joe Concha.

The documentary projects will run alongside several of Eastwood’s films from the 1970s and 1980s.

Wildflame to produce 14-part series for S4C

Cardiff-based indie Wildflame Productions has been commissioned by Welsh broadcaster S4C to produce a 14-part series, Evacuees/Efaciwis (working title), a flagship documentary series about civilian evacuations to Wales during World War Two.

Described as a “unique language and social experiment,” Evacuees/Efaciwis will be made up of a few different formats, including a 4 x 60-minute factual living history series for the main S4C channel co-hosted by Good Morning Britain‘s Sean Fletcher and news broadcaster Sian Lloyd, recreating wartime Britain in North Wales, taking non-Welsh-speaking children from the UK’s biggest cities and living the 1940s evacuee experience in rural Wales.

The series will also include an 8 x 30-minute series for children on S4C’s Stwnsh brand using footage from the main series along with vibrant pop art graphics, as well as a pair of 60-minute documentaries focusing on Wales’ role in World War Two and the country’s continuing role as a haven for refugees to this day. The series is being made in partnership with the National Library of Wales.

MTV’s True Love or True Lies? goes to Germany

ViacomCBS has announced that the MTV original reality format True Love or True Lies? is being adapted for the German market following an option deal with ITV Studios.

ProSieben’s commission marks the first local adaptation of the True Love or True Lies? format since the original launched on MTV in 2018, and it is ProSieben’s first adaptation of an original MTV format. The local title of the show will be How Fake Is Your Love?, and it will be shot on the Spanish island of Mallorca. The new series is set to premiere on September 7.

True Love or True Lies? launched on MTV UK and MTV International in 2018. The reality dating show brings couples together from all walks of life in a villa to vie for the title of “the perfect couple” and prize money while fake couples among them try to cheat their way to the cash.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with ProSieben and ITV Studios on True Love or True Lies? A brilliant guessing game, which questions our notion of everlasting love, we have no doubt that German audiences will become completely addicted to this first local adaptation,” said Laura Burrell, VP international formats for ViacomCBS International Studios Distribution in a news release.

Night Train takes stake in Bossanova

Munich-based Night Train Media (NTM) has acquired a majority stake in London-based unscripted distributor BossaNova, which was founded in late 2020 by TCB founder Paul Heaney and Dina Subhani.

Under the deal, BossaNova will have access to an acquisition fund to fulfill its mission to co-create and co-fund projects by matching producers with the ideal platform or broadcaster. The acquisition is part of NTM’s strategy to find synergies between its documentary and drama units and diversify its portfolio. BossaNova was advised by GothamStreet’s Dane Phillips on the acquisition by Night Train Media.

“As NTM continues to diversify and dive into the factual space, we are thrilled to have found BossaNova. Paul’s track record building distribution assets, his market standing and vision are second to none. We are hugely excited to be working together and to mark this exciting chapter in NTM’s expansion with the BossaNova team,” said Night Train Media CEO Herbert Kloiber in a release.
