Nutopia announced a pair of key executive changes within its development team on Friday (Aug. 6).
Samantha Fernandes (pictured, left) was promoted to head of development, while Rob MacAndrew (right) was promoted to VP of science development. The pair will report to executive vice president and executive producer Simon Willgoss, who was himself promoted last year.
In her new role, Fernandes will oversee the day-to-day running of the development slate across all genres. Previously, she was the deputy head of development and a development researcher at Nutopia. She’s worked on the development of projects like Babies on Netflix, The World According to Jeff Goldblum and the upcoming Disney+ series Limitless.
MacAndrew’s position, meanwhile, is a newly created role. He rejoined the company in 2020 as a development executive, and after that led the development of the recently announced Welcome to Earth (w/t) with Will Smith for Disney+. In his new role, MacAndrew wlil take on a wider role leading development on the company’s new premium science, natural history and adventure content.
MacAndrew was also part of the original creative team behind One Strange Rock for National Geographic, and for the Emmy-nominated How We Got to Now on PBS.
“Sam and Rob are both best-in-class development execs and we’re delighted to secure them in these new roles,” Willgoss said in a news release.
“Sam has been integral to our growth these past years and is already proving herself to be a top development head. We’re excited to welcome back Rob, whose expertise will help us build on our recent successes in celebrity-led, premium science and natural history.”
