All3Media signs distribution deals for English Premier League docuseries

All3Media International has signed multiple deals for Fever Pitch! The Rise of the Premier League, a new documentary series produced by Story Films and Studio 99, a production company started by David Beckham (pictured).

The 4 x 60-minute series tells the story of the English Premier League’s creation, and its evolution into one of the world’s most high-profile and lucrative sports leagues. The series reveals the story of how successive groups of business brains, players, agents and journalists transformed English football to create the league.

The series will debut on BBC2 in the UK later this year, and is distributed globally by All3Media International.

Amazon acquired the series for Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and several European broadcasters have picked it up as well including RTL (Germany and German-speaking Europe), Telefonica (Spain), DR (Denmark), NRK (Norway), SVT (Sweden) and YLE (Finland). Meanwhile Discovery+ acquired the series for India and WATCHA will be air the series in South Korea.

All3Media is still working on further deals in Asia, the Middle East, Africa and the Americas.

Fever Pitch is produced by Adam Hopkins, and is one of the first titles to come from Studio 99. The series is scheduled to complete production this summer.

ZDF Enterprises begin filming on Inside Japan’s War

ZDF Enterprises began filming this month on a four-part series exploring World War II from Japan’s perspective.

Inside Japan’s War is the first major international documentary to explore this side of the war, including fierce Japanese-American battles and the militarization of Japanese society. It begins at the start of Hirohito’s rule in the mid-1920s and takes viewers through to the end of World War II when the country’s empire dissolved and gave way to a democracy.

The series will cover the conflict between China and Japan that’s often regarded as the start of WWII in Asia, Japan’s fervent nationalism, the build-up of its military power and its political structure, all leading to their surprise attack on Pearl Harbour in 1941.

The series is produced by Wildbear Entertainment. Production was set to start earlier this year, but was delayed due to the pandemic. ZDF vice president of unscripted Raif Rueckauer said this gave producers more time to find rare archive material for the series.

Along with expert statements and archive images and film, Inside Japan’s War will also include letters, diaries and interviews with Japanese and other Asian witnesses to the war.
