ZDF adds four docuseries
ZDF Enterprises is growing its non-scripted catalog with four docuseries.
Legendary Heroes (3 x 60 minutes), The Year that Rocked the World (5 x 50 minutes), Rescued Chimpanzees of the Congo with Jane Goodall (5 x 50 minutes) and Underworld (5 x 50 minutes) all completed filming this month.
Legendary Heroes, produced by NFP Media Rights with ARTE as co-producer, comes from ZDF’s Terra X documentary slot and was filmed in nine countries across Europe. The series looks at fantastical stories such as King Arthur and the tale of Siegfried and the Nibelungen, seeking their origin and whether any truth exists to these legends.
The Year That Rocked the World celebrates extraordinary global moments in politics, cinema, crime, celebrity, sports, disasters, science, inventions, music and the arts, over the course of a single year. The series combines archival footage and interviews with well-known facestto cover five different years: 1977, 1981, 1989, 1997 and 2004. Off the Fence produced the series for CuriosityStream with ZDF Enterprises and zdf.info.
Rescued Chimpanzees of The Congo with Jane Goodall was filmed over 30 years, revealing Goodall’s journey to create the largest chimp sanctuary in Africa. The sanctuary is challenged daily by issues like malnutrition, disease and paralysis. Off the Fence produced the series with the support of the Jane Goodall Institute for CuriosityStream in association with ZDF Enterprises.
Underworld was filmed in five international locations including the caves of Gibraltar to the largest caverns on Earth in China, building a detailed picture of a unique world hidden below our feat. This series was also produced by Off the Fence for CuriosityStream with ZDF Enterprises, as well as Youku and Windsight.
Fox series join Tubi’s Canadian library
Tubi, a Fox Entertainment streaming service, has added more than a dozen Fox titles to its library in Canada.
U.S. favorites like The Masked Singer, The Masked Dancer, Mental Samurai, Celebrity Watch Party, First Responders Live, Labor of Love, Let’s Be Real, Name That Tune and Ultimate Tag will now be available.
“Fox’s marquee titles launching in Canada comes at an optimal time when our Canadian audience is growing at a rapid pace,” said Adam Lewinson, chief content officer, Tubi, in a news release. “We’ve seen Fox content resonate with our viewers in the U.S., so we’re thrilled for our audience in Canada to now have these premium series at their fingertips.”
Talpa signs deal with Eureka Productions
Talpa Concepts and Eureka Productions have inked a deal targeting linear and OTT markets in Australia. The deal gives Eureka exclusive rights to sell and produce all Talpa formats including Marble Mania, Avastars, Hunting Season, A Quiz For You, Hit the Road and Kids Buy a House.
The deal follows Talpa’s exclusive partnerships with Dok1 Media in Belgium, Satisfaction Group in France and Seven One Entertainment Group in Germany, as the Dutch media company looks for partners to grow its brands in various territories.
“It’s creative shows like Holey Moley that immediately draw my attention,” said Talpa founder John de Mol. “I look forward to working together with this next-generation production company. We have a similar taste for creation and distribution.”
Autentic secures slate of global sales
Factual distributor Autentic Distribution has sold the feature documentary In Search of Monsters (pictured) to several TV channels, as part of a raft of new sales.
The film, from German production company Hoferichter & Jacobs, follows Mohamedou Slahim a formerly imprisoned and officially exonerated alleged al-Qaeda terrorist, searching for his perpetrators to forgive them. Autentic has sold the documentary to Deutsche Welle, Swiss’ SRF, Norway’s VGTV, Finland’s YLE, Belgium’s TVM and TV3 Catalunya, as well as to Al Jazeera and Japan’s NHK.
In the German-speaking region, Autentic has secured a package deal with the ProSiebenSat.1-owned channel Kabel1Doku that includes Container Ship XXL, season one of Stone Men (6 x 45 minutes) and Return to the Moon. The German free tV channel ntv picked up season two of What Went Wrong (6 x 52 minutes) and pre-bought Empire Builders: China (3 x 60 minutes), Empire Builders: Ancient Greece (2 x 60 minutes) and Empire Builders: Dutch Golden Age (2 x 60 minutes). N24Doku will broadcast Engineering the Future (6 x 60 minutes) and Badass Professions (6 x 45 minutes), while ORF Universum picked up Napoleon – The Beginning of the End (90 minutes), which was also licensed by Mediaset Italy with Container Ship XXL.
The miniseries Berlin 1945 (3 x 52 minutes) will be available on The Knowledge Network in Canada. One Year in Norway’s Lofoten (2 x 52 minutes) was picked up by Norway’s NRK and Sweden’s UR. Hungary’s MTVA licensed At Our Neighbour’s Table (143 x 30 minutes), TVN added season 2 of What Went Wrong, and Czech Republic’s FTV Prima picked up more than 70 hours of factual content from Autentic including Engineering the Future, Plague Island, The Dyatlov Pass Incident (4 x 52 minutes, 8 x 30 minutes) and By Mail Ship through the South Seas (2 x 45 minutes).
Disney’s CEE also licensed 10 hours for NatGeo including Europe’s forgotten Dictatorships, The Science of…, Love Around the World and History of Home. Bloomberg Asharq also added more than 12 hours including Container Ship XXL, Engineering the Future and History of Food (5 x 30 minutes).
