U.S. broadcaster CBS, Global Citizen and Live Nation have partnered for the five-week competition reality series The Activist.
Hosted by Usher (pictured, left), with Priyanka Chopra Jonas (center) and Julianne Hough (right) serving as co-hosts, the series features six activists from around the world addressing three causes: health, education and the environment.
Contestants will compete in missions, media stunts, digital campaigns and community events aimed at garnering the attention of global decision-makers and demanding action.
Their success is measured via online engagement, social metrics and hosts’ input.
The ultimate goal is to create impactful movements and advance to the G20 summit in Rome for an opportunity to meet with world leaders in the hopes of securing funding and awareness for their causes.
In the end, “The Activist” will be crowned in an event featuring a musical performance, activists and heads of state from across the globe.
The Activist premieres Oct. 22 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS, and will be available to stream on Paramount+.
“The Activist will spread awareness about society’s most urgent issues while also giving every viewer the opportunity to be part of the solution – an unprecedented example of how entertainment can change the world,” said Michael Rapino, CEO, Live Nation Entertainment, in a release. “Combining competition and compassion, these essential causes will take center stage, as the show proves that there are no issues we can’t solve when we work together and demand change.”
The series is produced by Global Citizen, Live Nation and Deviants Media with Ivan Dudynsky and Fernando Hernandez serving as executive producers.
