Discovery UK has greenlit a new 4X60-minute series called Anni: The Honeymoon Murder (w/t), delving into the tragedy of British millionaire Shrien Dewani and his Swedish wife Anni, who was killed after the couple was kidnapped. The murder became one of the world’s most talked-about headlines, with the public sparring over who was really responsible for her death.
The new testimony-driven series follows the twists and turns of the case, with extensive access to CCTV recordings and exclusive in-depth interviews with Anni’s family, the lead investigators, the legal teams and even those involved.
Available to stream on discovery+ beginning November 13 – the 11th anniversary of Anni’s murder – the series is produced by Dragonfly in the UK. It was ordered by Discovery’s Clare Laycock, commissioned by Charlotte Reid and executive produced by Matt Reid. At Dragonfly, Toby Paton served as series director, Kate Scholefield as producer, and Tom Pullen and Richard Bond as executive producers.
Anni: The Honeymoon Murder (w/t) was produced for discovery+ internationally and will air globally later this year.
“We all remember this horrific story and the press coverage it generated,” notes Laycock, SVP Planning & Insights, Head of Entertainment at Discovery. “Anni Dewani lost her life in the most tragic of circumstances – but the full story hasn’t yet been told. Dragonfly has done an incredible job of reviewing the investigation and producing an enthralling narrative about her family’s search for answers.”
The news follows Discovery’s recent expansion to its documentary slate with Keith Maitland’s Dear Mr. Brody.
