Jeff Collins and Catalina Content, a Sky Studios company, have announced plans to develop Icon, a talent competition series dedicated to discovering a global pop music icon.
Catalina will develop the series in partnership with Emmy-nominated director, producer and choreographer Laurieann Gibson. Gibson will serve as an executive producer and act as the main judge on the series. She’s worked with some of the world’s top music artists including Lady Gaga, Megan Thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj, the Jonas Brothers and Alicia Keys. She’s also worked on such reality series as So You Think You Can Dance, Making the Band, Dance Moms and Beyond the Spotlight.
“Artist development is the key component for the evolution of the music industry today and the trajectory of a recording artist. Without artist development, there is no sustainability and longevity for the artist, their vision, the process, and the music.” Gibson said in a statement regarding the series.
Gibson, with the help of the other celebrity judges, will handpick 11 artists to participate in an 11-week development camp to challenge and elevate their artistry as a singer, dancer and entertainer. At the end of the camp, one contestant will receive a development deal.
Collins, president of Catalina Content, said the show will feature contestants who already have strong vocals, but need polish and presence to become stars.
The new series joins Catalina’s slate that already includes Notorious on Oxygen and Mighty Underdogs for Discovery+.
