ViacomCBS has announced that its ViacomCBS Networks International (VCNI) division has entered into an agreement to acquire a majority stake in Spanish-language content producers Fox TeleColombia and Estudios TeleMexico from The Walt Disney Co., expanding its streaming presence in the Latin American market.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, and the transaction is subject to regulatory approval and closing conditions.

VCNI’s VIS division will operate Fox TeleColombia & Estudios TeleMexico collaboratively with the company’s founding family.

The deal will give VCNI access to Fox TeleColombia & Estudios TeleMexico’s operations in Colombia and Mexico, in addition to a library of Spanish-language content across numerous genres including documentaries, unscripted, premium series, telenovelas, films, kids and family titles, as well as live sports. The content will bolster the conglomerate’s global streaming platforms including Paramount+ and Pluto TV, as well as its linear networks around the world, while also ramping up ViacomCBS’ Spanish-language content production capabilities.

Fox TeleColombia & Estudios TeleMexico founder and CEO Samuel Duque Rozo will continue to support the business from an advisory position, and current president Samuel Duque Duque will lead the business. The division will now fall under the remit of Juan “JC” Acosta, president of ViacomCBS International Studios and Networks Americas.

“The acquisition of Fox TeleColombia & Estudios TeleMexico, combined with ViacomCBS’ existing Spanish-language portfolio including Telefe and ChilevisiĆ³n, reinforces the company’s position as a leading worldwide producer of Spanish-language content,” said Raffaele Annecchino, president and CEO of ViacomCBS Networks International (pictured) in a release. “This content will fuel ViacomCBS’ global ecosystem across Paramount+, Pluto TV and its linear networks.”
