French producer-distributor Zed has signed an agreement with factual entertainment company Curiosity to produce 10 exclusive programs by the end of 2022.
The projects will premiere across Curiosity’s SVOD service, Curiosity Stream, as well as its linear Curiosity Channel.
Of the 10 original projects, details of seven have been announced. They include four new episodes of the historical warfare series Besieged Fortresses: Battles of Legend (4 x 52 minutes), examining how fortresses redefined the art of warfare. The series is produced by Zed and directed by Fabrice Buysschaert, Sophie Scala, Marion Vaqué Marti and Angèle Berland, slated for spring 2022.
The other three announced projects on the way from Zed are three 52-minute 4K episodes of the ancient history series Normandy, Northern Men Empire (pictured), directed by Juliette Desbois. This series offers viewers a deep dive into the armed conflicts that made Normandy one of the most coveted territories in Europe, with episodes focusing on historical figures including Rollo the Walker, William the Conqueror and Richard the Lion Heart. Normandy, Northern Men Empire is expected to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2022.
“This agreement strengthens the close ties between our two companies,” said Manuel Catteau, president of Zed in a statement. “We’re thrilled by the trust Curiosity has placed in us by ordering these films, which confirm our ability to produce high-end platform-appropriate content with strong storytelling. This agreement also strengthens our growth strategy in the U.S. market, which has become a key territory for us.”
