RX France, the organizers behind global TV content market MIPTV, announced on Monday (Nov. 22) that the 2022 iteration of the event will occur in person in Cannes.

The 59th annual MIPTV will be hosted from April 4 to 6 next year. The 2022 edition will introduce a reformatted three-day schedule that will roll MIP Formats and MIP Doc into the main MIPTV program, with all three programs held within the Palais des Festivals. In previous years, these programs were held the weekend prior; in 2020, plans were afoot to move MIPDoc to the Palais, but that year’s edition of MIPTV, as well as MIPDoc and MIPFormats, was cancelled as an in-person event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2021 MIPTV conference was held digitally from April 12 to 16.

For 2022, MIPTV will also feature a transformed layout with a new exhibition floor plan alongside newly curated flexible meeting spaces at the Palais, in the hopes of accommodating what organizers call “a more engaging and holistic business environment.”

The International Format Awards will also return as a physical event at MIPTV, in association with C21 Media, FRAPA, MIPFormats and Entertainment Masterclass. The fifth season of the Canneseries TV Festival will also be held around MIPTV, from April 1 to 6, with esports BAR, a global B2B event for the esports industry, running alongside MIPTV.

“It is both hugely exciting and very timely to be able to now realize our ambitions for reshaping MIPTV,” said Lucy Smith, RX France’s director of MIPTV & MIPCOM, in a statement. “We believe the MIP community needs the MIPTV platform this Spring more than ever as the global meeting point for their business.”

MIPTV organizers were motivated to make this move back to an in-person event after the success of MIPCOM earlier this fall. MIPCOM was the first major market to be staged in person since the COVID-19 pandemic began, and according to RX France, it hosted more than 4,500 delegates, including 1,200 buyers and 145 stands from 35 countries.

The spring event will also include comprehensive COVID-19 safety measures, similar to ones that were safely implemented at MIPCOM, that will be reviewed, updated and refined ahead of the event in April.
