Realscreen is partnering with filmmaker and executive producer Chuck Braverman and his Westdoc Online video series to present his interviews with acclaimed documentarians and non-fiction content industry figures to its readership.
In the newest episode of the interview series, Braverman sits down with Oscar-nominated filmmaker Matthew Heineman and producer Leslie Norville to discuss their latest film, The First Wave. The new film features exclusive access inside a New York hospital system during the first four months of the COVID-19 pandemic, spotlighting frontline workers and patients at the center of the situation. National Geographic Documentary Films picked up The First Wave from Participant and Our Time Projects earlier this year.
Heineman was nominated for an Academy Award for best documentary feature with his 2015 film Cartel Land, which also won three Creative Arts Emmy Awards including exceptional merit in documentary filmmaking. He’s also directed the documentaries City of Ghosts and Escape Fire: The Fight to Rescue American Healthcare. Norville is a documentary producer who has worked on films such as Any Given Day and A Ballerina’s Tale.
