HGTV will air its annual White House Christmas 2021 special on Dec. 12, with Big Fish Entertainment handling production.
The special will spotlight the White House’s holiday displays, which includes 78,750 lights, more than 10,000 ornaments, 6,000 feet of ribbon and 41 Christmas trees. The special will also be available to stream on Discovery+.
White House Christmas 2021 will feature First Lady Jill Biden, as she guides host Genevieve Gorder (pictured) through a room-by-room tour of the White House, discussing the meaning of this year’s decor theme and the preparations that went into each room’s display. This year’s theme is “Gifts from the Heart,” inspired by small acts of kindness during the pandemic.
The tour will also include the Gold Star Tree, honoring men and women of the U.S. military, doves and shooting stars honoring frontline workers and first responders, and a gingerbread replica made from 55 sheets of baking gingerbread, 120 pounds of pastillage, 35 pounds of chocolate and 25 pounds of icing.
“White House Christmas has been a visual feast on HGTV for 24 years—a colorful, magical, celebratory and uplifting experience for the entire family,” said Jane Latman, president of HGTV & streaming home content for Discovery in a news release.
