HBO is set to premiere the six-episode unscripted series Chillin Island on Dec. 17, a project coproduced by Spotify that features filmmaker and actor Josh Safdie as an executive producer.
The series’ cast includes hip hop personalities Alec ‘Despot’ Reinstein, Ashok ‘Dap’ Kondabolou and Aleksey ‘Lakutis’ Weintraub, as they invite their friends to join them in nature. Their adventures include communing in deserts and swamps.
Other modern music luminaries will be featured in the series including Young Thug, Lil Yachty, Rosalía, Killer Mike, Coi Leray, Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig and more.
“It’s a brilliant mix of offbeat observations and weirdly funny revelations built around three unconventional hosts, some well-known rappers, and exotic locations. It’s quirky, irreverent, and at times, profound,” said Nina Rosenstein, executive vice president of HBO programming, in a statement.
Chillin Island will debut on HBO and will also be available to stream on HBO Max.
Safdie serves as an executive producer alongside Reinstein, Sebastian Bear-McClard, Oscar Boyson, Adel ‘Future the Prince’ Nur, Jason Shrier and Anthony Gonzales. Dave Laven and Matte Babel are co-executive producers on the series. Dawn Ostroff, Courtney William Holt and Liz Gateley serve as executive producers for Spotify.
The series is narrated by Steven Wright, and directed by Xander Robin, Samuel Shainberg, John Paul Lopez-Ali and Audrey Turner.
