BAFTAs ’22: “Flee” and “Summer of Soul” lead doc nominations

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts released its full list of nominations, featuring several for documentary titles.

In the documentary category, awards-season favorites Summer of Soul (…Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised) and Flee both received nominations. Rounding out the list was Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin’sThe Rescue, about the Tham Luang Cave rescue; Andrea Arnold’s Cow, about the life of a cow; and Liz Garbus’ Becoming Cousteau, about the life and work of the famed French oceanographer.

Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson’s Summer of Soul received another nomination, with Joshua L. Pearson being recognized in the best editing category.

The Danish documentary Flee (pictured), from director Jonas Poher Rasmussen and producer Monica Hellström, also received a second nomination from the BAFTAs, in the best animated film category.

The BAFTAs also nominated Keyboard Fantasies, a documentary directed by Posy Dixon about Black transgender musician Beverly Glenn-Copeland, in the Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer category.

The BAFTA nominations were announced on Thursday (February 3) by AJ Odudu and Tom Allen. The awards will be handed out on March 13.
