NBC is teaming with Studio Lambert to make the American edition of Talpa’s new adventure reality format Million Dollar Island.

The news comes a little under two months after it was first reported that Studio Lambert and Talpa, the Dutch prodco behind Big Brother and The Voice, had joined forces to bring the series to the U.S. and UK.

Million Dollar Island is a social experiment that sees 100 people dropped on a tropical island, where they must survive for up to 50 days in order to claim their share of a $1 million prize. Each contestant is given a bracelet that is worth $10,000, and as the show progresses they can gain or lose bracelets through a series of challenges and duels. When a player leaves the island, they can bequeath their bracelet to one of the remaining contestants.

“We’re excited to partner with a powerhouse team to bring this fresh and bold social experiment to NBC,”┬ásaid┬áJenny Groom, EVP of alternative programming and development for NBC, in a release announcing the deal. “This series is sure to entertain with ever-evolving alliances, trust, deceit, and the ultimate will to survive.”

Studio Lambert CEO Stephen Lambert added: “We’re thrilled to be making this big new format for NBC. The storytelling and strategy, along with a breathtakingly beautiful and remote landscape, will combine to offer viewers a gripping competition.”

Lambert, Tim Harcourt and Jack Burgess will serve as executive producers on the series for Studio Lambert, along with series co-creator and Talpa head John de Mol, who, in his own statement said: “I’ve enjoyed great success with NBC on The Voice, so I’m delighted that they’ll provide the perfect U.S. home for this exciting new show.”

The original Dutch version of Million Dollar Island will premiere in the Netherlands on March 6 on the Talpa-owned broadcast channel SBS6.
