Paramount+ has added more titles to its previously announced slate of UK scripted and unscripted content ahead of the streamer’s scheduled launch in Britain this summer.
Four new original factual offerings were included in this latest update, beginning with LA Hairdressers (w/t), produced by Fulwell 73 in association with Endeavor Content. The 8 x 60-minute series takes viewers into the inner workings of two high-end salons that cater to the Hollywood elite, as well as spotlighting the personal and professional lives of the establishments’ much-in-demand stylists.
Fulwell 73′s Leo Pearlman and Sheldon Lazarus are exec producers on the series, which was ordered for Paramount+ UK by VP commissioning editor Kit Morey and Daniel Pearl, VP of unscripted UK originals. Endeavor Content will handle global distribution rights.
Continuing in the glitz-and-glam vein is Fashion House (w/t, 3 x 60 min.), which chronicles the history of three of the world’s premier luxury fashion empires: Gucci, Versace, and Burberry. The series was ordered for Paramount+ UK by VP commissioning editor Lucy Willis, and is produced by Brighton-based Lambent Productions in association with All3Media International and Night Train Media. Emma Tutty and Ollie Tait are executive producers for Lambent.
Pervert: Catching the Strip Search Caller (w/t) investigates the long-running phone scam in the 1990s in which a hoax caller, posing as a police officer, manipulated managers of numerous fast food restaurants across the U.S. into strip-searching staff members whom the caller said were suspects in criminal cases. The 3 x 60-minute true-crime docuseries was produced by Wag Entertainment, whose Bridget Boseley and Steven Green serve as executive producers, and was ordered by Denise Seneviratne, VP commissioning editor for Paramount+.
The last item is the feature-length doc Girl Taken (pictured), which covers the story of Celeste and Morne Nurse, whose infant daughter was kidnapped from a Cape Town hospital two days after her birth in 1997. After years of fruitless searching by the Nurses, a chance occurrence brought their now-teenaged daughter back into their lives, but the ensuing criminal prosecution of the woman who had stolen the girl and raised her as her own drove the reunited family apart once again.
The 92-minute doc is produced by Soilsiú Films, in association with Screen Ireland, M-Net and Abacus Media Rights. It is co-directed by Simon Wood and Francois Verster, with Verster also serving as producer along with Soilsiú’s David Rane. Executive producers are Lesley McKimm (Screen Ireland), Jonathan Ford (Abacus), Allan Sperling and Nicola van Niekerk (M-Net), and Guy Davies (Paramount+). Davies, VP commissioning editor for Paramount+ UK, also ordered the film, with global distribution rights to be handled by Abacus.
Paramount+ will roll out further announcements of UK content throughout the spring.
