Montreal-based format specialist Media Ranch has struck a deal with South Africa’s Trace Studios for global distribution of Trace’s formats.

Included in the agreement are such series as 2 Weddings and a Superstar, in which some of South Africa’s top musicians surprise two of their biggest fans on their wedding day with a “performance of a lifetime.” The feel-good lifestyle show combines the glamor of an intricately planned wedding with powerful live musical performances.

Another format included in the deal is the cooking competition Ultimate Braai Master, in which nine teams participate in various outdoor “braaing” (grilling) elimination challenges to win a cash prize, a car and the title of “The Ultimate Braai Master.”

Also included in the pact is Any Objections?, an emotional reality series that focuses on a couple’s wedding day while also unpacking the complicated family dynamics that often occur when two people decide to tie the knot. The 13-part series follows couples whose wedding plans have ground to a halt due to disgruntled family members who refuse to approve of the union. The show’s experts will try to help couples find peace amid the family drama.

Last up is Trendsetters, a lifestyle reality series that turns obscure social media superstars into real-world trendsetters by giving them a bigger stage in front of a larger audience.

“This is an exciting chapter in the Trace Studios business, and having a partner like Media Ranch represent Trace Studios formats globally is an exciting first for us,” said Sivan Pillay, CEO of Trace Studios (pictured, right), in a news release. “We look forward to a long-term, mutually beneficial relationship where we can break new ground and continue in our pursuit to create more opportunities for African-based IP.”

“Media Ranch’s new partnership with Trace Studios is a major step in Media Ranch’s global footprint,” added Media Ranch founder and president Sophie Ferron (pictured left). “After expanding in Asia recently, we now add South Africa for the first time. As we do with DR [Danish Broadcasting Corporation], we are taking Trace’s great formats out to the world. We are grateful that Sivan and his team have entrusted us with their fantastic IP, and we expect very positive responses from our buyers.”
