Peacock slates first ‘Dateline’ original series, The Last Day

Peacock has announced its first-ever original ‘Dateline’ series, Dateline: The Last Day, which is set to premiere on June 14 on the NBCUniversal streaming service.

The eight-episode series (pictured) comes from NBC News’ newsmagazine and features new reporting and stories that have never been featured on the broadcast. The true-crime series will begin with each murder victim’s last day, with NBC News correspondents Keith Morrison, Josh Mankiewicz, Stephanie Gosk and Andrea Canning examining the subjects’ final hours.

Dateline: The Last Day is produced by NBC News. David Corvo is senior executive producer on the series, with Liz Cole as executive producer and Charmian Ling, Paul Ryan and Allison Orr as senior producers.

Something Special wins two KOCCA funds

Seoul-based international format agency Something Special is the recipient of two top international KOCCA (Korean Creative Content Agency) funds for 2022, the Format Lab Fund and the International Co-Production Fund. This is the third straight year that Something Special has won the KOCCA Format Lab Fund.

KOCCA puts forth a competitive annual initiative, with three operating companies selected each year for funding. No company can earn more than two of the funds.

The Format Lab Fund will allow Something Special to select three teams of Korean creative producers to develop new paper formats. Last year, two of the six paper formats created in the Format Lab Fund were the competition format Quizzy Horror Show, created by Jiyoon Kim, and the music competition format Smashed Hits, created by Eunseol Mo. Both were acquired for development by Michael Yudin‘s MY Entertainment Productions.

The 2022 International Co-Production Fund will be used to produce a pilot for Quizzy Horror Show with MY Entertainment. Additionally, Smashed Hits has brought on veteran format expert Simon Lythgoe (American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance) as showrunner.

Go2Films finds Canadian distributor for IDFA winner Housewitz

Jerusalem-based sales agent Go2Films has secured a Canadian distribution deal with Blue Ice Docs for Dutch filmmaker Oeke Hoogendijk’s IDFA winner Housewitz, which had its North American premiere at Hot Docs last weekend. Fifteen years in the making, the film is a portrait of Hoogendijk’s mother, a Holocaust survivor who refuses to leave her house.

Housewitz is currently running in festivals around the world and will open theatrically in the Netherlands in May following its Best of IDFA Day screening in Amsterdam earlier this month. The documentary will also be screened at Germany’s DOK.fest Munich, as well as Poland’s Millennium Docs Against Gravity.
