Home renovation, food and lifestyle programming icons are figuring heavily in the upcoming unscripted slate for the Roku Channel.
As part of its inaugural NewFronts presentation yesterday (May 3), Roku announced it was working with Martha Stewart (pictured), Emeril Lagasse and Christopher Kimball on the development of several Roku Originals. The deals with Marquee Brands, home to properties from Stewart and Lagasse, and Kimball’s Milk Street Studios will provide both original content and more than 3,000 hours of library programming to Roku Channel.
New programming on the way includes the self-explanatory Martha Gardens, Martha Cooks and Martha Holidays, as well as Emeril Tailgates and Emeril Cooks, all from Marquee Brands Productions. Kimball’s projects with Roku will include Milk Street’s Cooking School and Milk Street’s Family Recipes.
The Great American Baking Show will get a new lease on life via the AVOD platform. The U.S. version of the Love Productions format The Great British Bake Off first aired on broadcast net ABC for several seasons, and will now air exclusively on the Roku Channel. Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith host. Love Productions USA will produce, with Richard McKerrow, Joe LaBracio, Al Edgington, and Jeremy Finn as EPs. The same team will also produce a celebrity holiday edition of the show.
World of Wonder and El Rey are teaming for cooking competition Delicioso, Roku’s first Spanish-language original series. It’s billed as being “rooted in the rich stories and traditions of Latin heritage through premium documentary storytelling.” Randy Barbato, Fenton Bailey, Tom Campbell, Richard Borjas, John Fogelman and Cristina Patwa are exec producers.
Previously announced titles that were also part of the NewFronts presentation include the feature-length To Paris for Love: A Reality ‘Rom-Com’ from Hello Sunshine and Cinestar Pictures, and the home reno series Honest Renovations, hosted and executive produced by actor Jessica Alba and The Cool Mom Co. founder Lizzy Mathis and produced by High Noon Entertainment, Mexican Spitfire and 3 Arts Entertainment.
