Abacus Media Rights acquires rights to Wonderland factual series
Abacus Media Rights (AMR), an Amcomri Entertainment company, has acquired the worldwide distribution rights for Sky Arts’ commissioned factual series Wonderland (pictured).
The 4 x 60-minute series profiles classic British children’s authors and the real-life pain behind the creation of their stories, combining biography, literary extracts and quotes, and moments from the many films made of their work. Among the authors spotlighted in the film are Arthur Ransome, Kenneth Grahame, A. A. Milne, J.M. Barrie, Rudyard Kipling, Lewis Carroll and Beatrix Potter.
Wonderland is an Odyssey Television production, commissioned and fully funded by Sky UK. The series is directed and produced by Adrian Munsey and was commissioned by Jack Oliver, head of co-productions at Sky, and Philip Edgar-Jones, director of Sky Arts and Entertainment. It will premiere on Sky Arts later this year.
Pernel Media lands commission for After the Asteroid from France Télévisions
Pernel Media has announced that it has landed a commission from French broadcaster France Télévisions to produce a 90-minute documentary film, After the Asteroid, about how life came back following a major meteorite impact millions of years ago.
Some 66 million years ago, a 12-kilometer-wide asteroid hit the planet, wiping out more than 75% of all species and plants that populated the planet, including most dinosaurs. In 2019, U.S. paleontologist Tyler Lyson discovered hundreds of fossils of animals and plants on a dig in Colorado, all dating exactly to one million years after the impact.
Pernel secured exclusive access to Lyson’s 2022 digging mission and will follow the team’s work in progress, using CGI to illustrate the regeneration of an entire ecosystem and the origins of life today.
After the Asteroid will be directed by Thomas Cirotteau (Lady Sapiens). Executive producers for Pernel Media are Fabrice Frank and Céline Payot-Lehmann. It was commissioned by Xavier Grimault, Amandine Picault, and Catherine Alvaresse, head of documentaries for France Télévisions.
