Hearst Media Production Group (HMPG) and Curiosity have partnered to co-develop a new factual entertainment series, Oddly Satisfying Science, which is set to premiere on Curiosity’s streaming platform Curiosity Stream later this year.

The 10-episode series is hosted by former Big Brother contestant, media personality and trained chemist Nick Uhas (pictured), who each episode invites STEM-focused social media influencers to investigate the science behind a range of phenomena — from fire tornadoes to mind control to medieval alchemy — and then undertake experiments that produce visually spectacular results. John Cavanagh serves as executive producer on the series for Curiosity.

Oddly Satisfying Science sees HMPG and Curiosity building on their pre-existing relationship in which Curiosity carried five HMPG-produced series, including the youth-oriented CBS science series Mission Unstoppable. It follows on from a series of high-level senior personnel hires and promotions at HMPG across the first half of 2022, as the recently rebranded company — which was known as Litton Entertainment until its full acquisition by Hearst Communications in 2021 — seeks to grow its production scope, slate and partnerships.

Oddly Satisfying Science enables us to expand our creative and collaborative relationship with Curiosity into original programming and to continue to build HMPG’s reach into all areas of digital and television entertainment by working with innovative executives, producers and talent,” said Angelica Rosas McDaniel, who assumed the role of EVP and general manager for HMPG’s newly formed entertainment division in January of this year.

Curiosity, meanwhile, announced its own robust slate of in-house original content for both linear and streaming in February, while also securing an 80-title package of programming from Amsterdam-based Off the Fence for Curiosity Stream.
