HBO Max orders local adaptation of The Traitors for Spain

Global indie distributor All3Media International and HBO Max have announced a new commission for IDTV’s psychological adventure format The Traitors (pictured), with HBO Max ordering a local adaptation for Spain.

Originally developed by IDTV and All3Media for RTL4 in the Netherlands, the format sees 18 celebrity contestants brought together and tasked with completing challenges to earn a cash prize, as well as ferreting out the three “traitors” who are trying to steal the prize for themselves instead of sharing it with the rest. Local versions of the format have already been commissioned in the UK, the U.S., Norway, France, Belgium and Australia.

This latest deal will see The Traitors heading to Spain for an eight-part series being produced by Gestmusic (Banijay Iberia), under the title Traitors España. The series, which is hosted by actor and director Sergio Peris-Mencheta, has completed filming in its a Spanish castle, and a premiere date will be announced shortly.

The Traitors was created by IDTV’s chief executive, Marc Pos, and creative director Jasper Hoogendoorn. The format was further developed with the RTL Creative Unit and produced by IDTV. All3Media International is distributing the format worldwide, and will sell the tape versions of the UK, U.S. and Australian adaptations.

Fred Media racks up first sales for Code 1: Minute by Minute

Melbourne-based distributor Fred Media has secured its first international deals for the documentary series Code 1: Minute by Minute.

Originally produced for Australia’s Seven Network, the 8 x 60-minute docuseries has been acquired by Warner Bros. Discovery in the UK, AMC Networks International for Spain and Portugal, SBS in Belgium and TVNZ in New Zealand.

Code 1: Minute by Minute breaks down the hours, minutes and seconds of some of the biggest and most tragic recent Australian news events, with first-person testimony from eyewitnesses and survivors. Produced by WTFN, the show already has a second series in production for delivery in spring 2023.

“We are thrilled that Code 1: Minute by Minute has got off to such a great start in the international market,” said Karen Connell, Fred Media’s senior sales manager for UK and Western Europe, who was responsible for the UK, Spain/Portugal and Belgian deals. “While it focuses on very specific Australian news events of recent years, the personal stories are universal, totally absorbing and will resonate with viewers everywhere.”
