Driving sustainability awareness for the unscripted business
Previously serving as head of alternative programming for The CW, and having exec produced several series including Penn & Teller: Fool Us, Mysteries Decoded and Recipe for Disaster, Zezo has transformed a passion — driving awareness about sustainable production practices in the face of climate change — into full-fledged advocacy by founding Reality of Change, an organization that promotes environmental sustainability solutions on set and screen in unscripted entertainment. In 2023, Zezo developed the ABCs of Climate Storytelling, a framing device that is now used by content creators and organizations in multiple countries. Last year, he partnered with the global environmental non-profit Rare to host an advisory committee of more than 30 U.S.-based unscripted production companies to establish a new sustainability roadmap for the sector. What's been the most significant milestone in your career to date?
"When I left The CW after a decade, it was a turning point that gave me the space and energy to make climate change and sustainability, something that is (perhaps obviously) deeply important to me, a meaningful part of my professional focus. One of the most rewarding milestones of my career has been engaging on this sustainability initiative with more than 100 unscripted producers, production companies, studios, networks, and agencies over the course of this past year and realizing just how much of a common goal it is to make a positive impact through our work. I'm proud to be part of a community filled with so many incredible people."
