Guiding the unscripted push for Issa Rae's prodco

Beginning her career in television at MTV Networks and with stints at Love Productions USA and Max, Nichole Roberts is now heading up the unscripted charge for Issa Rae's prodco, Hoorae. There, she's focused on developing and producing "bold, commercial and clever" content drawing from the perspectives of diverse creators, with a special emphasis on Black women. She also helped broker a production partnership with her former Max colleagues, Jen O'Connell and Rebecca Quinn, and their Velvet Hammer Media outfit, specializing in development of dating, competition and social experiment formats. Recent credits have included Sweet Life: Los Angeles and the revived Project Greenlight: A New Generation, both for Max. BW

What changes would you like to see and help create for the industry?

"I want to ensure unscripted is always a space for innovation and real investment in big swings that get people excited about what's new and next. With my colleagues at Hoorae, we are focused on continuing to elevate diverse voices and cultivating new approaches that push boundaries creatively while bridging gaps in the market. The relationship between creators and their audience is so important, so as we all strive to plan for the future, I hope we never lose sight of that bond and have the flexibility and support needed to make an impact."
